Santa Fe Striders Scholarship

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be a resident of New Mexico for the past 2 years.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who competed for one of the following Public or Charter schools:
    • Academy for Technology and the Classics
    • Capital High School
    • Espanola Valley High School
    • Los Alamos High School
    • McCurdy Charter School
    • Pecos High School
    • Pojoaque Valley High School
    • Santa Fe High School
    • Tierra Encantada Charter School
  3. Applicant must be a member of high school cross country and/or track team in good standing (no discipline issues) for 2 or more years. Must compete as an individual in running events.
  4. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) as certified by their guidance counselor.
  5. Applicant must be accepted to a 2 or 4 year college prior to applying for SFS scholarship.
  6. An acknowledgment signed by a parent or legal guardian that collegiate athletic association regulations may prohibit the applicant from accepting the scholarship if they are attending college on an athletic scholarship.

Selection Criteria

Scholarships are based on achievements during the applicant's high shool career in the following areas:
  1. Academics, as measured by 2.5 or higher GPA, Honor Roll, Honors
  2. Member of cross country or track teams in good standing (no discipline issues) for 2 or more years.
  3. Community involvement/service - volunteering, including SFS events
  4. Extracurricular school activities - school clubs, officer
  5. Personal essay of about 250 words on "What Running Means to Me." SFS reserves the right to publish essay in SFS newsletter.
  6. Two letters of recommendation from individuals not related to them - One letter from cross country and/or track Coach and one letter from a teacher, employer, etc.
  7. An acknowledgment signed by a parent or legal guardian that collegiate athletic association regulations may prohibit the applicant from accepting the scholarship if they are attending college on an athletic scholarship.

Award Options

Santa Fe Striders will be awarding between 1-5 scholarships in the amount of $1,000-$5,000 per scholarship. The number of scholarships awarded and value of each scholarship will depend on the number and quality of submitted applications.

Payment

Santa Fe Striders will provide the scholarship money to selected student(s) at the start of the semester upon receipt of the student's tuition invoice which can be emailed to: santafestriderscholarship@gmail.com

Evaluation of these areas will be determined by the sole discretionary judgment of the SFS Scholarship Committee and the SFS Board of Directors, whose decisions will be final. If a committee member has a vested interest in an applicant, that committee member will be excluded from the decision-making process for that applicant. If no one meets the selection criteria there will be no award(s) given.
